Liverpool’s Salah Stays Put: Riyadh Season Cup Participation Unlikely

Posted on December 15, 2023 By armanzafar887@gmail.com

Liverpool’s prolific forward, Mohamed Salah, has been at the center of attention in the football transfer market, with the Riyadh Season Cup looming in January 2024. Despite numerous teams expressing interest during the 2023 summer transfer window, Salah, who recently achieved the impressive milestone of 200 goals for Liverpool, is not anticipated to participate in the prestigious tournament.

Reports indicate that several regional teams targeted the Egyptian icon, submitting bids totaling around £150 million ($192 million). However, no agreement was reached, as Salah remains under contract with Liverpool until 2025.

Mohamed Salah joins Saudi Arabia?

While the Saudi Pro League is expected to make another attempt to secure Salah’s services, it appears unlikely that the star player will make the move in early 2024. Salah’s former teammates Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have joined the ambitious and big-spending league, following in the footsteps of football luminaries like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

Michael Emenalo, the Director of Football for the Saudi Pro League, expressed the league’s admiration for Salah, comparing him to football greats such as Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kevin De Bruyne. Emenalo emphasized the league’s willingness to consider players of Salah’s caliber when they become available.

While acknowledging Salah’s contentment at Liverpool, Emenalo assured that the league respects the player’s current standing in the historic club. He emphasized the need for aligned interests from all parties involved and underscored the personal nature of such decisions. Emenalo expressed his admiration for Salah, a player he previously recruited for Chelsea, and affirmed that the league would be delighted if the opportunity to bring Salah on board materializes.

In summary, despite the significant interest and past bidding war for Mohamed Salah, the likelihood of his participation in the Riyadh Season Cup in January 2024 remains low, with the player content at Liverpool and contractual obligations in place.
