Hurricane Helene has wreaked havoc across the southeastern United States, leaving a trail of destruction and claiming the lives of over 230 people. The powerful storm has been one of the deadliest hurricanes to hit the U.S. in recent history, leaving communities reeling from the devastation.
Among the victims are Khyzier and Khazmir Williams, five-week-old twin boys who tragically lost their lives when a tree crashed through their family’s mobile home in Thomson, Georgia. Their mother, Kobe Williams, also perished in the storm.
“Nobody was taking the storm seriously,” said Mary Jones, Kobe Williams’ mother and the boys’ grandmother. “Then it started, and the wind was so loud. When the lights went off, Kobe got really scared. She was worried about the babies.”
The family huddled together throughout the night, fearing for their safety. Tragically, a falling tree struck their home, taking the lives of Kobe and her young sons.
“I asked, ‘Are they alive?’ And one officer said, ‘It’s bad, don’t go in there,'” Jones recalled, her voice filled with grief.
The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene is widespread, with families across multiple states facing unimaginable loss. As communities begin the long road to recovery, the memory of those lost will forever be etched in their hearts.
