Despite the unsuccessful transfer, Haaland was given a Copenhagen shirt with his name and the number 9 on it. Reflecting on the experience, the Manchester City forward mentioned, “I was on trial there in 2016. A couple of guys from the club wanted me then, but not everyone. It didn’t happen – sad for them! Maybe good for me, because I went to Molde and it was a good choice.”
Expressing his fondness for Copenhagen, Haaland added, “But I like Copenhagen, it’s a nice club, and I have a couple of friends who live in Copenhagen. They’re standing behind the goal in a lot of games. They enjoy it.”
The 23-year-old revealed his interest in joining Copenhagen’s Under-19s, saying, “I was interested in joining them, yeah. It was to join the Under-19s. Of course, I was interested, which is why I went there. I remember speaking to Stale Solbakken, who was the coach. I even got a shirt, a No.9 Haaland shirt. I still have it at home. It never happened, my destiny was another way, and it’s been a decent way so far.”
Ultimately, Copenhagen’s loss turned out to be Molde’s gain, as they secured Haaland’s services before Red Bull Salzburg and later Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.
In his debut season with Manchester City, Haaland impressed with an incredible 52 goals across all competitions. This season, he has already notched up 28 goals.
