A heartwarming story of resilience has emerged after a dog named Jackson miraculously survived a horrific attack in which he was shot nearly 70 times with a BB gun.
The incident occurred when Jackson’s owner, Hayden Howard, discovered him covered in what she initially thought were bug bites. However, upon closer inspection, the horrifying truth became apparent: Jackson was riddled with gunshot wounds.
“I was completely shocked, I didn’t know what to think,” Hayden told WXIN.
Veterinarians were stunned by the extent of the injuries, discovering bullets lodged in his eyelid, ear, and knee. In total, they removed 27 bullets from Jackson’s body, leaving 20 others embedded too deeply for safe removal.
“I have never seen an animal shot that many times,” said Assistant Chief Craig Hayes of the Seymour Police Department. “It’s a very bad case and it’s sad to see.”
The incident sparked outrage in the community, with authorities swiftly identifying a neighbor as the suspected perpetrator. A search of the neighbor’s residence uncovered a rifle, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia, including methamphetamine.
This horrific incident highlights the dangers of irresponsible gun ownership and the importance of treating all firearms with the utmost respect. BB and pellet guns, often mistakenly considered toys, are capable of inflicting serious harm and should be treated as the weapons they are.
Hayden expressed her hope for justice for Jackson and emphasized the importance of holding the perpetrator accountable for their actions. “I sincerely hope they never be allowed to approach an animal after they leave,” she stated.
Despite the trauma he endured, Jackson is making a remarkable recovery. His story serves as a testament to the resilience of the animal spirit and a poignant reminder of the importance of compassion and responsible gun ownership.
